· Complete engineering design of a special mechanical testing machine for umbilical cables.

Description: The job included the conceptual, basic, and engineering design with all manufacturing drawings for the construction of a computer controlled mechanical testing lab machine for tensile tests on subsea umbilical cables. With a tensile load capacity of 200 metric tons the machine is capable of performing tensile tests coupled with bending over a curved path, according to API 17E standard and meeting particular requirements set forth on Petrobrás technical specifications.

· Manufacturing process analysis and modification of the industrial equipment for the experimental production of the STU prototype. (Steel Tube Umbilical)

Description: The initial phase of this project included a technical analysis of the existing industrial equipment to evaluate the feasibility of manufacturing a experimental STU (steel tube umbilical). During the final phase the mechanical parts were custom designed, fabricated and assembled into the industrial equipment, culminating with the experimental STU prototype fabrication.

Description: Modification of the industrial lay-out and arrangement of the umbilical cables factory. Implementation of the revised procedures for production planning aiming at the fulfillment of production schedules and deadlines negotiated with customers. Introduction of industrial processes improvement for increasing overall product quality.

Description: Elaboration of specifications and procedures for the transportation, storage, and handling of subsea umbilicals, including recommendations and special care during the overboarding, deployment, and installation of these special cables, meeting customer's Quality System basic philosophy, and following specific guidelines from API, ISO, IEC and Petrobrás. A total of 18 technical documents were prepared for Barracuda & Caratinga, KBR Halliburton's project.

Description: Conceptual design, detailed engineering design, procurement, fabrication inspection, assembling try-out, and acceptance leakage tests of an anchoring system and watertight termination for the submarine optical power cable interconnecting the fixed platforms PY 4-2 and PY 5-1 with the FPSO Hai Yang Shi Yon III, in the Devon Energy China oil field of Panyu, in the South China Sea.

· Modification of a test rig for simulating a pull-in operation of a subsea umbilical.

Description: Engineering design and fabrication of a special equipment and mechanical devices for the modification of the test rig of the IPT Vehicles and Components Laboratory, Makai's technical partner, to enable the pioneering simulation in the laboratory of the final phase of the pull-in operation of a umbilical and its accessories represented by the positioning of the bend stiffener centralizer inside the "I-tube".
The full installation load was applied to the umbilical sample during the simulation meeting the technical requirements set forth by Petrobrás, as part of the Umbilical Qualification Program for the Albacora East oil field.
